UAE has Declared 2019 as the Year of Tolerance

In 2019, the UAE proudly embraced the “Year of Tolerance,” a monumental initiative aimed at fortifying the nation’s commitment to fostering stability and prosperity in the region. This significant proclamation followed the impactful “Year of Zayed” in 2018, showcasing the country’s dedication to honoring its rich cultural heritage and values.

Leaders, including @HHShkMohd and @MohamedBinZayed, took to Twitter to announce this crucial move, underscoring the pivotal role of tolerance in the diverse and multicultural fabric of the Emirates. The objective was clear: to position the UAE as a global beacon of tolerance through a strategic approach that intertwines legislative and policy-driven goals. The overarching vision was to cultivate values of co-existence and peace not only within the country but also on a broader, international scale.

President Shaikh Khalifa eloquently stated that the Year of Tolerance serves as a seamless extension of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan’s legacy, specifically championing the values of tolerance and co-existence that the late leader firmly established among the people of the UAE.

The Year of Tolerance stands on five robust pillars, each contributing to the overarching goal. First and foremost, there is a commitment to deepen the values of tolerance and co-existence among various cultures and peoples, with a special focus on educating the youth about these principles. The second pillar seeks to solidify the UAE’s global standing as a capital for tolerance through a series of specialized initiatives and projects centered around tolerance and dialogue among diverse cultures and civilizations.

Moving forward, the third pillar involves enacting multiple cultural programs and contributions to construct tolerant communities. The fourth pillar puts the spotlight on legislative and policy-oriented objectives, actively contributing to the mandate of cultural and religious tolerance through meaningful dialogues. Lastly, the fifth pillar involves promoting tolerance and co-existence through targeted media initiatives and projects.

Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the government’s commitment to policies that further consolidate tolerance and community spirit. The aim is not only to spread these values among the current generation but also to instill them deeply within the youth and future generations. The Year of Tolerance, therefore, stands as a national effort, symbolizing the UAE’s longstanding dream of creating a tolerant and cohesive society that welcomes people from varying cultures and religions worldwide. It is a visionary endeavor, aligning the UAE and tolerance hand-in-hand.
